Birch Grove Primary School

Birch Grove Primary School is part of the Tolland Public Schools system in Connecticut. The school provides regular education to students from pre kindergarten to grade 2. As part of their vision, Birch Grove Primary School aims to promote an educational community, whose purpose is to nurture its students through high quality education and experiences that correspond to the needs and requirements of present day society. The curriculum at Birch Grove Primary School is based on the Professional Community Learning (PLC) model, and covers a wide range in arts, science and technology subjects. This model ensures that learning in each grade is guided by goals and assessment benchmarks set in all core areas for the sound development of students. A standards based report card system, along with rubrics, has also been developed for better assessment.

A range of important student facilities are provided by the Birch Grove Primary School, including special programs for students with specific needs. The Family Resource Center (FRC) at the school offers many activities and services to its students and their parents. The school also hosts a summer camp, and a before and after school program that is quite popular. Through the FRC, Birch Grove Primary School conducts parent education nights, the Parents as Teachers program, Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) course, and the Charts-A-Course program for childcare providers, to share best parenting strategies with the parents and caregivers.
