One of the smallest towns in Connecticut, Marlborough is a quaint community nestled in the hills of Central Connecticut. It has a population of 6,000 on 23.4 square miles of land, giving it a population density of 269 people per square mile. Only about 15 minutes from Hartford, Marlborough offers all of the privileges of rural country living, but is within a short driving distance to many major commercial hubs. It's about 20 minutes from the Buckland Hills Mall and the Crystal Mall, depending on which direction you drive.
In 1648, a business was opened named Sadler's Ordinary in the Marlborough region, which provided a rest stop for travelers in the area. Coincidentally, the business is still in operation today! This rest stop became the basis for a small town, as colonists began to settle around Sadler's Ordinary. An Ecclesiastical society was eventually formed here in 1747, and the town was incorporated in 1803, using small tracts of land from neighboring Glastonbury, Colchester and Hebron.
Today, Marlborough is known by locals for its charming beauty and natural surroundings. At the heart lies Lake Terramuggus, a tranquil location where residents come to have picnics, swim, relax, do some hiking or just get away. Marlborough's town council is dedicated to civic works, and this dedication can be seen through its many activities and organizations, from conservation groups, to sports clubs. Marlborough is also in the process of planning new business developments, in order to expand its local economy.
