South Windsor is a quaint suburban town bordering Hartford county in Connecticut. It has a population of around 25,000, and occupies and area of 28.7 square miles. Though the town has strong agricultural roots, it has recently seen an increase in commercial and industrial development mirroring a sharp rise in population. South Windsor is rich in history, which can be traced back to 1659 when the town was purchased from the Podunk Indians. In the 1700s, the town became primarily concerned with agriculture and ship building, as well as tobacco. Ulysses S. Grant, the head of the Union Army in the Civil war, spent a substantial amount of time here, and the famous Theologian Jonathon Edwards, called South Windsor his home. After WW II, it became home to many war weary soldiers, looking to settle down, marry and start families.
Today, South Windsor is still a destination of choice for young married couples in Connecticut starting a life together, as 30% of the population falls within this statistic. This is mostly due to attractive real estate pricing and a well-to-do atmosphere, as much of the town?s income is generated in nearby Hartford. Residents are within a stone?s throw from numerous entertainment venues and shopping districts, including the Shoppes at Buckland Hills. At its current growth rate, South Windsor is sure to become one of the keystones of the central Connecticut community.
