West Hartford

West Hartford is a rich, multicultural and vibrant community on the West side of the Connecticut river.  It has a population of about 62,000 people, and is one of the business, educational and residential hubs of the central Connecticut metropolitan area.  It also ranked within the top 100 best places to live in the US, according to CNN/Money Magazine.  West Hartford encompasses the best of both worlds, from a vibrant and busy downtown area, to the rural and mountainous outskirts that are enjoyed by many for hiking and camping.

West Hartford is extremely well known for its numerous educational facilities, and as such was ranked the 10th most educated town in the country by Money magazine.  It has the 3rd best public school system in Connecticut, outranked only by Greenwich and Fairfield. West Hartford is home to the University of Hartford, St Joseph's College, and the Hartford branch of the University of Connecticut.  Additionally, The UConn Law school, Business School and Medical School are a short distance away. For high school education, it is home to an unusually large proportion of private schools, including Kingswood Oxford and Northwest Catholic, prominent prep schools that are held in high regard by regional educational institutions.

Not only known for its educational prominence, West Hartford also contains a huge portion of the Metacomet Ridge; a mountainous ridgeline that stretches across 3 states. The most famous of these, Talcott Mountain, is frequented annually by nature enthusiasts, hikers and campers alike. The trek through the public park on the east side of the slope, begins with a 3 mile hike to the top, and culminates in a beautiful, mountaintop view of the Central Connecticut Valley.
